Alicia Calderwood

Locals of all ages won’t want to miss the Carolina Circus Festival on Sept. 9 — a free event from 6-10 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park, full of twists and turns. This year’s theme: Fantasy and Folklore.

“Carolina Circus Festival is a 501(c)(3) local nonprofit performance organization for circus and aerial performers promoting creativity, collaboration, and mental health in circus arts,” said Alicia Calderwood, founder and director. “We provide all day FREE circus shows to the public in Cary!  Our festival’s goal is to spread more awareness about all things circus related to the public, while spreading more awareness on mental health and suicide prevention in artists and athletes.”

The year’s festival includes free circus-related workshops, mermaids, an arts market, aerial acrobatics, a fire and LED show, crafts, a mental health station, a silent auction, and MUCH more!

“This whole festival is going to be very interactive and fun for ALL ages,” said Calderwood. “There will be all-day aerial acrobatics shows, a market with different local vendors, fairy hair, food trucks, a professional fire show, and much more! Our theme is fantasy and folklore with lots of costume contest opportunities! Dress up and come check out our festival!”
