September is Fit Cary Month, and there are many ways to celebrate. Cary offers miles of greenways to explore, plenty of local parks for outdoor play, and fitness facilities for athletes of all kinds. From free drop-in sports to family-friendly events, learn how you can enjoy all the ways to get and stay healthy in Cary.
Free Drop-In Sports
Whether you’re new to pickleball, an avid pickleballer, or somewhere in between, athletes of all skill levels can enjoy free drop-in sports through Sept. 10. Current sports offered include badminton, basketball, volleyball, and the increasingly popular pickleball. See the full schedule here.
Healthy Cooking Classes
One of the key elements to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is establishing a healthy diet. Cary is offering two opportunities to learn how to prepare nutritious dishes that everyone will love. Learn how to prepare a seasonal and locally-sourced meal from the experts at Good Hope Farm; the video is free and available for everyone. Seniors (ages 55 & older) can enjoy a “Health-icious Salads” class at the Cary Senior Center and create delicious salad dressings and salads.
Get Outdoors
With over 90 miles of greenways and paths, plus 120 miles of bike lanes, outdoor enthusiasts of all ages can find plenty of ways to explore. Participate in Take a Child Outside (TACO) Week, Sept. 24-30, with fun activities like a sunset paddle at Bond Lake or a guided nature walk at Hemlock Bluffs.
Farm Fresh Fun
Supporting area farms and enjoying locally sourced food can promote a healthy diet and benefit the health of your community. Good Hope Farm, an organic teaching farm, has several opportunities for hands-on experience this month. Enjoy the outdoors during their volunteer work day or have an afternoon of family fun at their Harvest Fest. Get the full details on Good Hope Farm here.
