Bucket Bash!

What’s on your bucket list?

And how would that list be impacted if you were faced by the C word?

A cancer diagnosis leaves little room for enjoying life’s simple pleasures, let alone time for pursuing dreams. But the Fill Your Bucket List Foundation’s inaugural Bucket Bash plans to add back some sparkle and delight into the lives of locals touched by this disease, by raising money to grant their wishes.

“After my father was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, my first thought was to help him do everything on his bucket list,” said Peggy Gibson Carroll, who founded the Fill Your Bucket List Foundation in 2014.

“Watching him complete items on his list is what inspired me to create the foundation. I hope to bring other families the joy mine experienced in fulfilling my father’s dreams.”

The Bucket Bash, set for Sunday, March 29, will include dancing, food and drink, and an auction. A bucket list tree will give guests an opportunity to fund part of a wish for a cancer patient in need, such as a hotel night, special dinner out or flight to Florida.

In the six months since it was founded, the foundation has sent a single mother with metastatic breast cancer and her three teenagers on a Caribbean Disney cruise. It has also provided a father with stomach cancer a chance to travel to Walt Disney World with his wife and two sons.

Gibson, who has worked in oncology for 30 years, says proceeds from the Bucket Bash event will go toward granting more wishes to North Carolinians in 2015.

The Bucket Bash will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., under an airy tent at the Weston One office park, located at 1001 Winstead Drive in Cary. Tickets are $75.
