Preston Flowers

Best Florist

A perennial favorite, Preston Flowers rose to the occasion yet again with their 2023 Maggy win for Best Florist!

“I feel so honored to have won the Maggy Award for Best Florist,” said owner Barbara McKinnon. “This award means so much to me because it’s a huge reminder of the community I have around me, and my staff and the support they give us throughout the year.”

Preston Flowers and Gifts is a locally and female-owned florist and gift shop offering fresh arrangements for every day, special occasions such as Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, birthdays, baby showers/arrivals, weddings, and funerals. They also offer custom silk arrangements, house plants, indoor/outdoor plants, and a huge selection of local crafted gift items, honey, soap and bath items, jelly/jam, elderberry products, unique kitchen pieces, jewelry, and the list goes on.

“Being a female business owner is an honor that I do not take for granted, and I want to show that in our work and our customer service every single day,” said McKinnon.

Cardinal Hill Wealth Management

Best New Business (Non-Restaurant) and Best Financial Advisor

Cardinal Hill Wealth Management is sitting on not one, but two big wins this year — the Maggy Award for Best New Business (Non-Restaurant) and Best Financial Advisor, Jessie Harris.

Jessie Harris, now in his 10th year of practicing, and Robert Hill, who recently completed his PhD from UNC Chapel Hill in Strategy & Entrepreneurship, have been friends since kindergarten and started their business together a year ago. The dynamic duo is rounded out by client specialist Brooke Phillips, who serves as the head of client advocacy. If you don’t need financial advice, go for the brews — Harris serves a mean cup of coffee with his fancy shmancy espresso machine (watch out, Best Coffee Shop)!

“I was so excited when I heard, and it just gave me a boost of confidence and excitement, knowing that we’re doing the right thing for our clients and that people really appreciate it,” said Harris regarding his win for Best Financial Advisor. “And it’s just an honor — there’s a lot of good folks in Cary. We just have a great group of people that we work with and I just feel really honored.”

As the sons of small-business owners, both Harris and Hill were thrilled to take home the Maggy for Best New Business (Non- Restaurant) — an award that, let’s face it, doesn’t typically go to financial planners.

“We just love small business,” said Hill. “We think that it’s critical to the growth of America that we return to a place of having strong small businesses, and to be honored as the best new small business is exactly what we hoped for. We hope to be the best firm in the Triangle for the next 30, 50, 100 years, and we can only get there by continuing to make our clients happy and to exceed expectations. We hope to continue to do that for a long time.”

Fenton

Best Shopping District

Fenton, Cary’s newest upscale shopping destination, takes this year’s Maggy Award for Best Shopping District.

“We are thrilled. It is such a pleasure to be recognized by the community. We are honored that our guests are enjoying our sophisticated playground,” said Jaime Nolan, Fenton’s marketing communications manager.

Unlike other shopping districts, Fenton provides a uniquely urban, pedestrian-focused experience where shopping, dining, and entertainment offerings come together. You can shop till you drop, schedule a romantic date night, or take part in one of Fenton’s many popups and free events.

“Fenton is so unique, with its connectability and walkability throughout the property highlighted by two lively greenspaces, The Backyard and Fenton Square,” said Nolan. “With fashionable retailers, beautiful landscaping, festive events, and unforgettable artwork, Fenton brings exceptional offerings that continue to draw guests back for more.”
