What’s better than a day filled with fresh berries, wine slushies, and cute farm animals?
The fact that it supports the female farmers behind small local farms!
The fourth annual She FARMS Apex Farm Tour is blooming this Saturday. We caught up with the mastermind behind the movement for a look at what to expect.
Introduce yourself!
My name is Pam Cloer, and I am one of the female farmers that you will meet on the She FARMS Apex Tour this Saturday.

Please give us some background on She FARMS Apex. How did the idea come about, and how long has it been running?
I had always wanted to partner with one of my neighbors who was growing flowers, but we could never come up with anything that was cost effective for us both. So, one day while I was watching FarmHer, it hit me that we needed to do a Farm Tour, showcasing family owned, female-run farms in our area. I pitched the idea to my neighbor and she loved it. Then, we contacted Diana May with Jordan Lake Farms and pitched our idea. She loved it too and mentioned she had three farms connected to hers that also fit the concept. So, within four weeks, we pulled off our first She FARMS Apex tour.
This is our fourth year, and the event has grown each year.
How does the upcoming Farm Tour work? What can people expect?
The She Farms Tour runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. Tours start at the top and bottom of every hour at each of the six locations. You choose your route. Start at any farm you like.
At Cloer Family Vineyards, enjoy award winning wines while strolling through the vineyard. Enjoy a glass of wine, a wine slushie, or even some wine ice cream!
Experience Farrell’s Creek Farm in peak season, ripe with blueberries, blackberries, and cherry tomatoes, as well as flowering plants and herbs.
At Sun Star Farm School preschool and summer camp, feed and visit with our adorable farm animals and enjoy fairy gem/geode cracking.
At Jean’s Neighborhood Market, Jean will be there to share the history of the iconic Berry Patch and then sip on fresh lemonade, shop and watch a video of Ronald, back in the day, giving a step-by-step detailed talk about the process of planting and growing the strawberries that were here for 30+ years!
Jordan Lake Farms will discuss the process of growing Christmas trees and flowers. You will be able to purchase U-pick flowers and/or enjoy walking through our flower field, or take a hayride!
At Pack House Farms, enjoy the Blueberry bushes that are ready for summer picking, and see the bees that make their delicious honey, jams and jellies, and stroll among some special guest vendors.
Attendees receive a coupon book. What kind of offers are inside?
Attendees will receive coupons at each farm that are good for day-of experiences such as discounts on blueberry and blackberry picking, picking flowers, etc.
What’s in store for the future of She FARMS Apex?
Our goal for She FARMS Apex has always been to raise money to provide scholarships for women in agriculture and we are excited to announce that this year will be the first year that we will be awarding them!
How can readers support She Farms Apex and local farmers in general?
Please support She FARMS Apex by purchasing a ticket ($15/person; kids under 12 are free) and coming out to visit all the farms, learn about the products we are growing and support local farmers.
Local farmers need your support to continue doing what they love. We have some wonderful farms in Apex, and I strongly encourage everyone to come get to know us all!
