The Transformational Impact of Black Creatives on Our Economy, Communities, & Culture

The 2025 Future of Black History Program explores creative and artistic works from local and national Black creatives. These artists help shape our collective American culture and create notable economic opportunities for some of our nations biggest brands, while also helping to establish pathways and opportunities for future Black creatives. Come and enjoy an immersive gallery display of some of their creative works, followed by an engaging panel discussion.
Hip Hop Workshop

Apex Senior Center
Acclaimed spoken word performer Nick Courmon will lead an interactive workshop to cultivate critical thinking and positive change. Award-winning dance teacher Nikki Turner, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Alex Weiss, will host an all ages, all skill level Hip Hop Dance class. Alexander Flowers, founder of BrainSTEMology, will have an exhibit highlighting how STEM concepts can be taught through hip hop music.

residential and business development. Over nearly 300 years, and through the struggles of enslavement and Jim Crow, African Americans contributed
their labor, knowledge, and culture to help build the Cary we know today. On this tour, you can learn about some of the people, places, and stories of
Cary’s African American community.

Dix Park in partnership with Raleigh Film and Art Festival presents a curated Black History Month artist exhibition showcasing the best talent of 2025 from across the state. A riveting month-long display of visual art representing the experience of people of color living in the South. Enjoy an array of spectacular pieces by professional and student artists.
Pope House Tours

Dr. M.T. Pope House Museum, Raleigh
As the only African-American house museum in the state of North Carolina, the Pope House offers a glimpse into the life of one of Raleigh’s most intriguing citizens, Dr. Manassa Thomas Pope, who was the only African-American man to run for mayor of a Southern capital in the midst of the Jim Crow Era. During February, the Dr. M.T. Pope House Museum offers both self-guided and guided tours six days a week. Closed Mondays.
Black History Trolley Tour
Sunday, March 2, 1 & 3 p.m.
Mordecai Historic Park, Raleigh
The Historic Raleigh Trolley offers a special Black history tour highlighting Oberlin Village. Participants will travel to Oberlin, disembark for a guided tour of the Historic Turner House and Oberlin Cemetery, and learn about the neighborhood’s rich history of community and freedom. Each tour lasts approximately one and a half hours. $15 per person.
