MOD Pizza, one of the newest additions to Waverly Place’s collection of restaurants, is marketing more than pizza.

MOD Pizza, or “made-on-demand” pizza, aside from offering quick services and artisan-style pizzas and salads with more than 30 toppings, has a mission to provide a people-first business. For MOD that means focusing on the employees, customers and community.

“It’s important for us to be involved within the community,” said Matt Jamison, marketing manager for the North Carolina MOD franchise.

The Cary restaurant jumped in with this people-first spirit by investing 100 percent of the opening day sales this past June to a fundraiser that kicks off Dec. 1 at Dillard Drive Middle School. The event partners local restaurants with the organization Generosity Feeds, to produce 15,000 meals for children in need.

Jamison says it’s important for the restaurant to get involved with the community from the start.

“We try to impact the community with what we’re personally capable of doing,” he said. “As a restaurant, we want people to stay nourished, and not everybody has that opportunity and capability of having meals on a day-to-day basis that are easily accessible.”

For MOD, giving back doesn’t stop at the local level.

With a recent Impact Pizza campaign, MOD is making “pizza with a purpose” and donating a minimum of $50,000 to the JED Foundation. The nonprofit works to raises awareness about teens’ emotional health issues and preventing teen suicide.

The campaign features a pizza named the “Isaac” in memory of a young and beloved MOD customer who passed away.

“It’s hard to put into words what it means to work for a company who is willing to step up to the plate and take on this kind of situation,” Jamison said.

MOD plans to open another location in the Cary area within the next year.

“MOD is definitely here to stay,” Jamison said, “We’re going to continue to evolve our relationships within our community.”
