Worth the Wait

Some things are simply worth the wait.

On Saturday, March 29 the Town of Apex will prove that, with the joyous grand opening of its long-awaited Apex Nature Park, just in time for spring.

Following a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting, be among the first to enjoy the park’s amenities, which include disc golf, tennis and basketball, nature trails, and a multi-age playground complete with climbing boulder and treehouse.

You can even register Fido for fun at the new dog park, by visiting apexnc.org/dogparks.

“The park is certainly long-awaited; we began its planning 12 years ago with it being included on our 2004 parks bond,” said Apex Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Director John M. Brown.

“The anticipation certainly comes from the many families in that immediate neighborhood, because so many of the neighborhoods that are there now weren’t there 12 years ago, and most of those built later used the Nature Park as a major selling tool.”

Barbecue Too

The day’s festivities in Apex, which in 2013 was ranked as No. 9 among Money Magazine’s 100 Best Places in America to Live, will include disc golf demonstrations, and free tennis clinics for youth and adults, by the Western Wake Tennis Association.

Brown notes that the ribbon cutting will be held rain or shine, with other activities contingent on weather.

Grab some barbecue too, and enjoy live music from the Folsom Prison Gang, a Johnny Cash tribute band, at the park’s amphitheater, which will host concerts and performances for years to come.

Bring your chair or blanket!

Apex Nature Park is located at 2600 Evans Road, at the corner of Apex Barbecue Road.
