See ‘Life in Seasons’ at Umstead Hotel Gallery

Lynn Boggess' work will be on display at The Umstead Hotel and Spa until Oct. 15.

Work by West Virginia artist Lynn Boggess can be seen at the art gallery, located inside The Umstead Hotel and Spa, through Oct. 15. Boggess is an artist who focuses on texture and scenes in the natural world.

Boggess uses elements of texture to create an intimate communion of the scenes and draws inspiration from his rural upbringing. His paintings, which are created through use of heavily textured oil paint, depict the natural world and include scenes of roaming hillsides and landscapes, creek beds, and trees. At first glance, his work often appears photographic at a distance, but when examined up close, viewers can admire the complex arrangement of large strokes of the trowel.

The exhibit on display at the hotel, titled “Life in Seasons,” begins in the height of brilliant autumn, proceeds to winter’s austerity, followed by the emerging yellow greens of early spring, and finally ends with a celebration of the blossoms of late spring.

Tucked into 12 acres of woodlands overlooking a private lake, The Umstead Hotel and Spa is located near the protected forest setting of the William B. Umstead State Park.  The Umstead boasts stunning interiors accentuated with a privately curated fine art collection, 150 spacious guest rooms and suites, world-class cuisine at Herons, an eco-friendly and wellness-driven spa, and a gracious staff.
