Register Early and Bike Against Cancer

Are you one of the many Triangle residents who started cycling in 2023? To keep you riding in the right direction, The V Foundation for Cancer Research is offering early registration through Feb. 15 for their Sixth Annual Victory Ride to Cure Cancer. The ride, scheduled for May 20 at Knightdale Station Park in Knightdale, will take place during the V Foundation’s yearlong celebration of its 30th anniversary.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Victory Ride this year in a way that encourages even more community involvement. Our new location offers safe and fun routes as well as a family-friendly venue to enjoy the post-ride festivities,” said Emily Clay, Victory Ride coordinator. “In celebration of the V Foundation’s 30th anniversary this year, the top three Victory Ride fundraisers will also be invited to a special gala held at NC State University in June that honors Jim Valvano’s legacy and all the progress we’ve made in the fight against cancer.”

Based in Cary, The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano, with the goal of achieving “victory over cancer.” To date, the foundation has raised more than $310 million for cancer research grants nationwide. The Victory Ride alone has raised over $1.3 million benefiting NC-based research institutions, offering 10-, 30-, and 60-mile distances and will include a virtual option for those unable to attend in person. 100% of rider-raised dollars will go toward cancer research at Duke Cancer Institute, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center (as well as breakthrough cancer research nationwide).

“I participate in the Victory Ride because we need an end to this disease so families can remain whole and don’t have to worry about saying early goodbyes,” said John Latteri, a 2022 rider. “The reality is that the fight against cancer is a cause we can all get behind.”
