OK, This is Different

What race ends with a celebration at a brewery, with pancakes and bacon?

This one!

The Pancakes & Beer 5K Run/Walk will happen on Saturday, June 17, beginning and ending at Fortnight Brewing Company in Cary. The fun supports NC MedAssist, a nonprofit free pharmacy for low-income, uninsured North Carolinians.

“NC MedAssist is raising awareness and funds for its Free Pharmacy Program,” said volunteer committee co-chair Jody Fleming. “We’re looking forward to an extremely fun and successful event!”

The 5K race is open to all ages and fitness levels. Race participants will enjoy pancakes, bacon and a craft beer at the completion of the race.

“Participants who raise an additional $384, the amount it takes to provide critical prescription medications to two NC MedAssist patients for an entire year, will also receive a wristband for all-you-can-drink beer that morning,” Fleming said.

You can register now at RunNCMedAssist.com, or at Fortnight Brewing on the day of the race, at 1006 SW Maynard St. in Cary.

“NC MedAssist will dispense over $39 million dollars in prescription medication this fiscal year alone,” said Executive Director Lori Giang. “Through the generous support of our community, we are able to meet the needs of every eligible patient that requests our assistance.

“Our organization provides life-saving medication to those who desperately need it but simply can’t afford it. Currently there are 1 million people in North Carolina who are both low-income and uninsured. Events like the Pancakes & Beer 5K Run/Walk raise funds to allow us to purchase generic medications, offered free of charge to our patients.”
