Meet & Eat

Garner’s newest restaurant is full of familiar faces — and that’s just the way owner Angie Mikus likes it.

Angie’s Restaurant is the fulfillment of a dream held by Mikus throughout her 20 years of waiting tables at various Garner establishments. Now, the locals who have loyally followed her career are dining on Southern fare at Angie’s very own tables, complete with red-checkered tablecloths and extra-mile service.

“I had an idea, of how I think people should be treated,” Mikus said, “a place where people could sit and talk, and stay all day if they want to. And I’ve always wanted my own place, to have control of my own destiny.”

The response to Angie’s Restaurant, which serves breakfast and lunch, is “amazing every day,” she said.

“People are so excited, the locals and others coming all the way from North Raleigh or Smithfield,” Mikus said. “They even write me messages on their tickets, like ‘We believe in you.’”

Angie’s cheery yellow setting, complete with a logo and mural painted by Garner’s own Vincent Wood, a renowned artist, create a happy place for lively chatter among friends.

Then there’s the food: Customers’ most-wanted items include the link sausage, country ham, shrimp and flounder, while Mikus favors the wide array of vegetables and homemade soups.

A Philly Steak Omelet is on the menu alongside Belgian waffles, or for lunch try Angie’s Burger or a sandwich from options like Fried Bologna or City Ham.

Daily specials are posted on Angie’s Facebook page, at www.facebook.com/angiesgarner. Takeout is available too.

Weekday hours are 5:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Saturdays 5:30 to 2.

The motto here is A Taste of Friendship, Mikus explains.

“It’s what I feel. I grew up in this town, and no matter where I’ve gone people have always been supportive. I’m truly grateful. It’s like this was meant to be.”
