Make It Happen

Looking for an excuse to dress up for a good cause? Here it is!

The 20th annual Art Ball, set for Saturday, Feb. 11, begins with a champagne reception and just gets better from there. The event benefits the nonprofit Cary Visual Art, the organization behind Cary’s popular public art installations and much more in our community.

“This year, for the first time ever, we will be hosting the Art Ball at the North Carolina Museum of Art,” said CVA Executive Director Catherine Howard, offering exclusive after-hours access to its Contemporary American Art Wing.

“The Art Ball will be just as elegant as it has been in the past with wonderful food, live music and dancing, plus we will have an infusion of new energy from this new space.

“The West Wing is a stunning work of art in and of itself, and we will be filling the event space with additional artwork by talented regional artists,” Howard said.

The artwork on display will be available for auction from Jan. 30 through Feb. 3.

In keeping with CVA’s tradition of placing permanent public art in Cary, proceeds from the Art Ball will go to commissioning swan benches for the new Carpenter Park.

Headlining the formal ball are Johnny White and The Elite Band, and highlights include culinary works of art by the chefs of the museum’s restaurant, Iris, and the premiere of a short film celebrating CVA’s 20-year history.

“The Art Ball is the main fundraiser for all of Cary Visual Art’s programming,” Howard noted. “We organize the placement of sculptures all over Cary, provide art workshops throughout the year, curate multiple public gallery spaces, and launched a high school artist-in-residence program for three high schools in Cary just this year.

“Without the Art Ball, and the attendance of the amazing Cary community, none of these critical arts programs would be possible.”

Tickets for the Art Ball are $250 and available at caryvisualart.org or by emailing cva@caryvisualart.org.
