The name may not linger on the taste buds, but the flavor of this yummy concoction will.

Four scoops of gelato and a shot of espresso, doused in whipped cream and chocolate sauce: No wonder affogato is a popular summertime treat at Fresca Café & Gelato, in Cary’s Waverly Place.

Fresca serves 18 flavors of gelato on any given day, made with ingredients imported from Italy. Popular choices are mocha java, stacciatella (vanilla with fine bits of chocolate), roasted almond, limoncello and Donatella (chocolate with hazelnut).

Not into gelato? Try sorbetto, the Spanish version of water-based sorbet, to savor your summer with cool treats.
