Gifts with Art and Soul

Richard Adrina's ceramic creations are among the works of art and fine craft from more than 100 contemporary artists that will be on display at the Carolina Artisan Craft Market, Nov. 2-4.

If you and the people on your holiday list appreciate unique, artful gifts, the Carolina Artisan Craft Market is the place to be this weekend.

“The market offers a great atmosphere, full of creativity, passion, and dynamic, original art,” said Elizabeth Lyne, the event’s organizer. “We’re proud to support these artists, all of whom have been jury-selected to exhibit their highly original work.”

The annual event returns to the Raleigh Convention Center Nov. 2-4, featuring handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces. Hosted by the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild, a local nonprofit, the market enables shoppers to invest in timeless gifts and goods ranging from glass to ceramics, wood, wearables, metal, leather, furniture, jewelry, and more.

As they browse the booths, attendees also have the opportunity to speak in-person with the artists and find out more about their work.

“As a North Carolina-based artist, I’m proud to participate in this local event,” said Bob Batura, owner of Cutting Edge Woodworks in Raleigh.

“Our state is truly the heart of arts and culture in the South, thanks to the support of savvy shoppers who come from hundreds of miles away because they appreciate our handmade work.”

While attendees browse the collection of craft and handmade art, they’ll also enjoy live music from artists like My Cousin Skinny and former Embers keyboardist Jimmy Weaver.

The Friday opening of the Artisan Craft Market is part of Raleigh’s First Friday program. Tickets are available in-person at the box office for $10 and online for $7 at carolinaartisancraft.com.

Since 1970, the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild has supported and perpetuated the professional pursuit of design and craftsmanship, encouraged opportunities for artistic growth and promoted education in and appreciation of the art of fine craft. Its annual Carolina Artisan Craft Market, held in November, provides a premier regional showcase for juried exhibiting artist members and provisional members to display their work for art enthusiasts.

Friends of the Guild receive complimentary weekend admission, access to a VIP lounge, and eligibility to win one of 14 original art works. Membership information is available at carolinaartisancraft.com.
