Craft and hobby retail businesses are channeling their creative sides to provide their services to customers cooped up at home. With kits and art supplies to go, local shops make it easy to create a masterpiece in your own space.
Wine & Design
At Wine & Design, painting canvas is the game. With a take-home kit, you can still put on your apron, grab a glass of wine and sit down at the table to paint your very own masterpiece. You can even face-time a friend or two and host a virtual paint-along!
For $25, each kit includes a pre-traced canvas of customer’s choice, paint, brushes, instructions, a mixing palette and paper towels. Other options include a $50 paint-your-pet kit or a $45 DIY wood pallet kit.
“We are doing everything we can to support our small staff and keep our business afloat, while also spreading some joy and creativity to the community of Cary,” said Amanda Carbo, manager of the Cary Wine & Design Studio.
Color Me Mine
Waverly Place’s Color Me Mine is offering take-home kits for everyone from kids to adults to paint in the comfort of their dining room tables, starting at just $8.
“Our kits are on our website to choose from, with everything you need to have fun painting pottery at home,” said owner Tammy Preston.
Each kit includes five paint colors, a set of brushes and instructions for painting your piece at home.
Once you are done painting your creation, drop your art back off at the store, and the Color Me Mine team will glaze and fire your piece. Completed pieces will be ready for pick up within five days.
Cary Quilting Company
If you’re interested in creating a keepsake from start to finish, a variety of at-home quilting and embroidery kits are available for purchase from Cary Quilting Company.
The store is closed to the public, but orders for fabric, thread and kits can be made online through their website. Orders can be picked up curbside, or if you live close to the shop’s Harrison Avenue location, same-day delivery is just $2.
Hangar 18 Hobbies
Stay busy at home with products and toys from Hanger 18 in Cary. With everything from tabletop games to puzzles and model boat and truck kits, there’s something for everyone.
To promote social distancing, the store is limiting customers to a few at a time, as well as offering curbside pickup.
The shop is also helping hospitals curb the spread of the virus by 3-D printing face masks and valves for respirators.
