Free Help to De-clutter: It’s Earth Day 2012!

Blink your eyes and technology changes, both at home and in the office.

So what do you do with outdated technology equipment? Drop it off for free recycling, at Technology Spring Clean!

The fourth annual Technology Spring Clean, presented by Garner-headquartered information technology consulting firm WingSwept, will be held this Saturday, April 21.

A free drop-off event, Technology Spring Clean has become an annual Earth Day event in Garner, and was named 2010 Green Action Program of the Year by Triangle Business Journal.

How’s it work? De-clutter your home and office by scooping up your old and unwanted technology, drive them to Technology Spring Clean, and drop them off. That’s it!

Equipment approved for drop-off includes computers/CPUs, printers, monitors, copiers, keyboards, mice, circuit boards, mainframes, hard drives and phone systems.

All hard drives are removed from computers and securely shredded prior to recycling, offering peace of mind to those concerned about the disposal of sensitive data.

To date, more than 50,000 pounds of technology equipment has been dropped off by community residents and businesses to be recycled. And in July 2011, the State of North Carolina banned technology disposal in landfills, making Technology Spring Clean even more important to the community.

Drop offs will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the north parking lot of Aversboro Road Baptist Church, located at 1600 Aversboro Road. Rain date is Saturday, April 28.

Also on April 21, the Town of Garner will sponsor the Spring 2012 Garner Litter Sweep and N.C. Big Sweep, in conjunction with Gov. Bev Perdue’s proclamation of the biannual state cleanup period.

Join in, and boost your hometown pride by keeping Garner’s streets and waterways beautiful.

All volunteers will be provided with supplies such as bags, vests and gloves to wear during the cleanup and/or a T-shirt or reusable tote bag for participating in the event.
