For Art, For Community

In a celebration of art and community, Cary Visual Art will hold its 17th annual Art Ball on Saturday, Nov. 23, benefiting CVA art and educational programs.

“This is our largest fundraiser of the year and we’re able to benefit the community because the funds go directly to our programs,” said Mary Davis Wallace, executive director of Cary Visual Art. “All of our programs are free to the public, so we’re able to provide things like workshops and walking tours.”

The Art Ball, to be held at the Prestonwood Country Club Grand Ballroom, will be hosted by Grace Li Wang, an artist celebrated for her ability to capture the beauty of nature in her work.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m., with a champagne reception and the chance to browse artwork and meet the creators of pieces you could own before the night ends. Festivities also include dinner at 7:30, and lots of dancing. Attendees can also enjoy a cigar and cordial bar.

A silent auction featuring live painting by artist Dan Nelson and more than 40 works from local artists, potters and sculptors will run from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Local auctioneer Lisa York will officiate a live portion of the auction from 9 to 9:30.

Some of the featured pieces are available to preview online at caryvisualart.org.

The John Barker Project, a seven-piece band featuring four vocalists, three horns and a rhythm section, will be the event’s headlining band, with cocktail music by Bill Mann and special guest speaker Debra Morgan from WRAL.

Programs benefiting from the 2013 Art Ball include the nationally recognized Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in Downtown Cary, and The Wishing Well children’s art gallery at WakeMed Cary Hospital.

Tickets for the Art Ball are $250 per person. For more information, visit caryvisualart.org or email cva@caryvisualart.org.
