Not a golfer? No problem!

As the SAS Championship launches here in Cary, one thing is certain: You don’t need to golf to enjoy it!

Among the festivities happening around the big event are Food Truck Friday, Live Fearless 5k, and the WakeMed Families First Fun Fest.

It all takes place Oct. 10-12 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary. 

“As the tournament continues to grow and expand, our focus remains on giving back to the Triangle community,” said tournament director Jeff Kleiber. “Providing exciting events for families, fans and children of all ages allows the opportunity to enjoy the weekend in a variety of ways, so we invite everyone to come join us as we celebrate our 14th year at Prestonwood Country Club.”

Following the first round of tournament play on Oct. 10, Food Truck Friday will feature some of the area’s most popular trucks, including American Meltdown, Chirba Chirba, Parlez-Vous Crepe and more.

Trucks will start serving at 4 p.m., and the evening will feature free live music from Peak City Sound.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, the fifth annual Live Fearless 5k will take follow the smooth, flat cart paths at Prestonwood prior to the start of the second golf round, open to all ages and types of runners.

Immediately following the 5k race is the opening of the interactive WakeMed Families First Fun Fest, offering kid-friendly activities such as a giant slide, bounce house, arts and crafts, and face painting.

YMCA of the Triangle is the host charity for the annual Champions Tour event, and its We Build People campaign will benefits from event proceeds.

Children ages 17 and younger are admitted free to SAS Championship events with a ticketed adult. Parking for the SAS Championship and community events is free and located at Bond Park; complimentary shuttle buses will transport families to and from the parking area.
