Dance, Just ‘Because’

There’s nothing quite like the power of movement, whether it be physical with the body, or figurative with the actions of people.

Garner will serve as host to The Movement Project’s week-long dance event Because, as various dance companies move with a purpose to present art in dance, and raise money and awareness for the fight against human trafficking and modern day slavery.

The Because benefit show will be held at the Garner Performing Arts Center on Oct. 5, from 3:30 to 7 p.m, and serve as the finale to a week of dance and fitness classes held with Kristin Sudeikis, Susie Gorman, and Rachel Warren of The Kristin Sudeikis Dance Company.

Kristin Sudeikis, a choreographer and dancer for the NBC hit show 30 Rock, once danced for Mariah Carey, and has been featured on The View and Good Morning America. While in the Garner area, she'll visit several churches, fitness and dance studios.

The Movement Project has partnered with the A21 Campaign in the mission to abolish slavery in the 21st century.

Reportedly, there are 27 billion slaves in the world, 2.7 million of whom are victims of human trafficking, with the average age being 12.

Because offers the community the chance to enjoy dance workouts, while being a part of a larger cause.

Several other local dance companies and artists are also involved in the benefit show, including Carolina Music Award Winner Eric Smallwood. A guest speaker from the A21 campaign will give a presentation and Q&A session on the cause, rounding out making this event in its effort to provide art, entertainment and education.
