Cary Theater & Other Facilities to Begin Opening

Beginning this week, the Town of Cary will begin opening facilities that have been closed since March 2020. Those Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources venues include the Cary Theater, the Cary Senior Center, and the Cary Arts Center.

Some facilities will open with limited summer hours, and more facilities will open in July, including Stevens Nature Center at Hemlock Bluffs and The Hive.

“This is a huge step in bringing the places and people that make Cary so special together,” said Doug McRainey, director of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources. “We’re so excited to be able to safely host programs, events and classes that allow us all to learn and have fun together in person, and to add those to the virtual and outdoor programs we’ve offered throughout the past year just makes it more special.”

The Town of Cary will offer a combination of virtual, outdoor, and indoor programs this summer. A listing of offerings and registration can be found in myCary, with pre-registration for July programs starting June 22.

  • Bond Park and Herb Young Community Centers will host summer camps Monday-Friday. On the weekends, the public can sign up to enjoy activities such as pickleball, badminton, and volleyball.
  • The public can also sign up for weekday pickleball play at Middle Creek Community Center.
  • This summer, citizens can also expect the Boathouse in Bond Park to restart its weekday boat rentals.
  • The Cary Theater will host in-person movie screenings.
  • Indoor exercise, computer and art classes will resume at the Cary Senior Center.
  • Indoor arts and recreation classes, half-day camps, art exhibitions, and ceramics and glass open Studios will restart at the Cary Arts Center.
  • The Page-Walker Arts & History Center will also reopen its museum and resume exhibitions.

A complete list of locations can be found at townofcary.org/facilities. Many facilities will operate with limited summer hours, which will vary by location, and each facility’s webpage will feature the appropriate health and safety guidelines outlined in the Town’s “Know Before You Go” protocols. Stay tuned to individual facility pages and Town social media channels for specific dates and programming this summer.

Facility reservations for the fall will be accepted from the public for all indoor facilities beginning July 1.

These new activities will join currently-offered services at Cary Tennis Park, Sk8-Cary, WakeMed Soccer Park, USA Baseball National Training Complex, and Koka Booth Amphitheatre.
