Bumper Crop of Fun

The 2012 N.C. State Fair starts a week from today. Different events and educational opportunities are available each day, so better plan ahead!

Deep-fried everything and twirly-whirly rides might get the most attention, but there are dozens of other draws at the annual event.

From learning how to cure fresh tobacco leaves, to trying your own hand at milking a cow, the fair offers a look into the state’s agricultural heritage. Below are scenes from the 2011 State Fair.

In planning your visit, a helpful Google map pins the locations of important buildings and exhibits on the fairgrounds.

Advance tickets are available online, with discounted rates for both admission and rides.

A “Preview Day” wrist band for unlimited rides will be available next Thursday only, for sale at ticket booths on the fairgrounds, for $28.

Nightly concerts begin on Friday at Dorton Arena. The two Scotty McCreery shows are long sold out, but other country stars from Jason Michael Carroll to Billy Currington will also perform and have remaining tickets starting at just $10.
