Be a Santa to a Senior this Holiday Season

Be a Santa to a Senior has officially kicked off in Raleigh for the 2023 season!

Share joy by giving a gift with older adults in the community who may not have anyone to celebrate with.

“The holidays can be hard for many older adults, especially those who may not have a companion to share them with,” said John Posey, owner of the Home Instead office serving Raleigh, Cary, Apex, and Wake County. “Through Be a Santa to a Senior, we can help these seniors experience the happiness and togetherness the season can bring.”

Last year, more than 300 older adults in Wake County received thousands of gifts thanks to the community’s generous support. This is the program’s 20th year in the area.

To participate, shoppers can look for Be a Santa to a Senior trees or displays at locations around the area. Ornaments featuring the name and desired gift of an older adult will be on display, and shoppers can buy the requested gift and return it unwrapped to the location with the ornament attached. Ornaments will be available from November 2 to December 8. The gifts will be delivered to local older adults in time for the holidays.

Be a Santa to a Senior brings together the entire community, with support from local businesses, nonprofit organizations, retailers, volunteers, and countless other community members. The Home Instead office serving Greater Raleigh has partnered with Meals on Wheels and Resources for Seniors to assist with gift collection and distribution.

The community is invited to join the Home Instead team and Santa for a wrapping party on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 9 a.m. at Treeo Senior Living in Raleigh. The event will continue for a few hours until all gifts are wrapped.
