In an effort to help low- and moderate-income residents of western Wake County, the White Oak Foundation is hosting drive-through COVID-19 testing on Saturday, May 30.
Staff from the Goshen Medical Center will perform the tests from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church at 1621 White Oak Church Road in Apex.
There is no out-of-pocket cost. If participants have insurance, the test will be billed to the insurance company. Those without insurance won’t be charged for the service.
“We will not turn anyone away,” said Juanita Hunter-Young, a spokesperson with the foundation.
Organizers are prepared to see between 150 and 200 people at the event. For optimal traffic flow, they ask anyone who wants a test to register for an appointment before the event. On-site registration will also be available.
In addition to helping individuals with their healthcare needs, organizers also hope to get a better understanding of the health of the whole community. It’s an economically diverse area, and any public health measures should include everyone, Hunter-Young says.
“When they talk about Wake County, or when they talk about North Carolina, we know that we were a part of the discussion and a part of any decisions that are being made,” she said.
The White Oak Foundation is an outreach ministry of the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church. It is a multi-faceted nonprofit organization, and community health is a major component of its programming.

I have no symptoms,
…but I care for a 95 year old mother and have been out and about. I use all recommended precautions when I do so, but live in constant fear that I or someone else makes a mistake that will ultimately infect me and in turn my mother.
