Anna’s Angels Gala Sets Record

Big change can happen when a community rallies its support. That was evident at Anna’s Angels Foundation’s recent fundraising gala. More than $115,000 was raised for Down syndrome research, surpassing the goal of $100K and far exceeding last year’s $96,000 fundraising total.

“We are in a position to make great strides in research and to continue to foster national collaborations,” said Michelle Pfeiffer, director of Anna’s Angels. “(Everyone’s) participation, donations and kind words of encouragement provide me with great energy to continue on this journey to improve the lives of our loved ones with Down syndrome.”

The Down Syndrome Summit that occurred prior to the gala gave an overview of research performed at Duke Medical Center, including a study on the link between obesity and Down syndrome and advancing cardiac surgery to correct a congenital heart defect that is common in individuals with Down syndrome.

Pfeiffer said the organization will continue to work with Duke so they can break new ground in research. For more information, visit www.annas-angels.org.
