Amazon to Open Cary Facility, Bring Hundreds of Jobs

Amazon plans to open a delivery station in Cary later this year. The facility will sort packages for “last-mile deliveries” to customers' doorsteps.

Amazon Logistics will be opening and operating a new delivery station in Cary later this year, adding to their existing presence in the region, the company announced on Monday.

Amazon expects to hire hundreds of associates as the company ramps up operations at the Cary delivery station in 2020. The full- and part-time jobs are expected to pay a minimum of $15 per hour.

“Amazon has been one of the key lifelines to so many during this terrible pandemic, and we’re grateful to them for that as well as their decision to locate a portion of their logistics operations in Cary,” said Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, in a written statement.

Delivery stations are typically located in large metropolitan areas and are often positioned near airports. At these facilities, packages are sorted for delivery to customers within a tightly defined urban area, which Amazon describes as “last-mile deliveries.” Usually the company contracts with independent drivers or local courier companies to bring the packages to customers.

“Providing consumers and businesses with fast and efficient delivery services is more critical now than it ever has been, and we are greatly appreciative of the commitment and investment Amazon is making into the Town of Cary,” said Mark Lawson, vice president of economic development for the Cary Chamber of Commerce, in a written statement.
