PORCH-WesternWake is an all-volunteer organization that collects and distributes food monthly to assist families in need living in Western Wake. The group operates on a neighborhood basis, with monthly donations collected from each donor's front porch.
Current donations are divided between the Western Wake Crisis Ministry and USO-NC.
PORCH-WesternWake donated 14,674 pounds of food in 2011 and 26,626 pounds of food in 2012. The organization was founded in December 2010 when a women's social group was inspired by the mission of PORCH, People Offering Relief for Chapel Hill Carrboro Homes.
PORCH seeks to expand its network of volunteers and donors to every neighborhood in Western Wake (Cary, Morrisville, and Apex).
Donors leave food items on their front porch for volunteers to collect on specified dates.
Participation is ongoing: Donors can participate every month OR just during the months of their choosing. There’s no pressure, no advance commitment
The impact is local: All PORCH donations help individuals and families in the Western Wake Communities of Cary, Apex and Morrisville
