Fireworks, Symphony & Freedom

Independence Day festivities get an early start in Garner, with a grand celebration planned to bring the community out in patriotic force.

Join the fun at the Town of Garner’s 25th annual Independence Day Celebration, held each year on July 3 at Lake Benson Park.

Entertainment, concessions and activities for the entire family, including a kids’ adventure zone with inflatables and crafts, are early highlights of the evening.

Scheduled to make a special appearance is the U.S. Air Force 916th Air Refueling Wing, with a KC-135R Stratotanker.

Then, sit back and listen as Garner’s own Rozlyn Sorrell sings the national anthem with the town’s special annual guests, the North Carolina Symphony, for a full Independence Day concert beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The Symphony celebrates America’s 236th birthday with a concert of patriotic favorites and high-spirited classics, marking just the second time Music Director Grant Llewellyn conducts this Garner performance.

Selections will include The Star-Spangled Banner to Sousa’s Semper Fidelis March, music from South Pacific and Saving Private Ryan, and John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare and Theme in anticipation of the upcoming London Olympics.

Audience members can even add their voices to James Stephenson’s Sing Along, America!
Last but not least, what organizers dub “the best fireworks show in Wake County” will light up the sky to conclude the evening.

Gates at Lake Benson Park, located at 921 Buffaloe Road in Garner, open at 5 p.m., with handicap-accessible parking available. Shuttle service to the park will run from Bryan Farm, located at 1832 New Bethel Church Road.

No pets are allowed. For more information, click here or call (919) 773-4442.
