Triangle-based jazz collective SMYA (pronounced ‘suh–MY–uh’) is an ensemble working to innovate, in part through the synthesis of wildly varied musical traditions. Indian Carnatic music becomes the older sister of hip-hop and RnB; pop and spiritual music lifts jazz foundations to unfamiliar heights; and video game-inspired soundtracks come alive on acoustic instruments.
