Cary Dog Days

Oct 7, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Grab a leash and the furriest members of your family and head to Fred G. Bond Metro Park for a day full of fun at Cary Dog Days on October 7 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Compete in the Skyhoundz Canine Frisbee Disc Competition, check out a local vendor or dog rescue and even adopt a new pet at the Town’s annual event. Members of the Cary Teen Council will wash and dry dogs for a small fee, and owners can vaccinate and microchip pets for low prices as Cary Animal Control teams up with local veterinarians. Previously held the first weekend in June, the event is being held in the fall for the first time due to citizen feedback.

All dogs, regardless of lineage or breed, are invited to compete in the Skyhoundz Canine Frisbee Disc Competition. Registration is free and opens at 9:30 a.m. The competition begins at 10 a.m. No experience is necessary; all your dog needs is a lot of energy and a desire to catch a disc. Spectators are also welcome; dogs not competing must remain on a leash.

After the competition, help Fido cool down with a nice bath. The cost for a small dog (1-10 pounds) is $5, a medium dog (11-30 pounds) is $7, and for a large dog (31 pounds and up) is $10. The rabies vaccines and microchipping clinics are open from 9 a.m.-noon. Vaccine and microchip supplies are limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. All pets must be on a leash or in a kennel; cats are welcome. The cost is $15 for microchips and $5 for the rabies vaccine. The dog wash and clinics are cash only. For more information, call Cary Animal Control at (919) 319-4517.

This event is co-sponsored by Second Chance Adoptions. Dogs will be available for adoption at Cary Dog Days and October is Adopt a Shelter Dog month. Also new this year, take your pet on a boat ride between 1-2:30 p.m. It costs $10 per boat. Pet life-preservers are not provided. Register for a canoe, row boat, or pedal boat online now.
