A Different Thread announces their third studio album, “Over Again” (September 2), and celebrates the release of the first single, “Come On Home Molly,” with a full band performance at The Blue Note Grill in Durham.

The duo Alicia Best (Durham) and Robert Jackson (UK) first met by chance, busking in Ireland. Their unique sound has been shaped over a decade of touring and supporting artists such as Milk Carton Kids and Big Star’s Jodie Stephens.

Their recent move to the Triangle area marked the beginning of “Over Again,” an album that reflects their transcontinental journey and offers intimate insights alongside liberal commentary on both environmental and social justice topics. Recording began in their tiny home studio, continued at Sylvan Esso’s Betty’s in Chapel Hill (known for recording Watchhouse and The Mountain Goats), and concluded in Alma Vale Studio, UK.

“Come On Home Molly” (releases May 6) meditates on lost friendships and open doors. “Ever been ghosted by a close friend?” Best asks. “There isn’t really a playbook for heartbreak like that, so I wrote this song.”

With rich harmonies and playful piano, the new single turns that particular heartbreak into a foot-stomping singalong — blending Jackson’s British folk rock background with Best’s North Carolina-bred alt-country melodies.
