From free gifts to hit musicals to a swanky luncheon, there’s a lot on the calendar at Triangle East! Here’s the scoop on a few fun things to see, try and plan for:

This weekend: It’s Hairspray!

The hit musical Hairspray lands on the local stage this weekend and next, celebrating the slide from 1950s to ‘60s with song and dance.

Heroine Tracy Turnblad wins a spot on a local TV dance program, and becomes an overnight teen celebrity. Can she vanquish the program’s reigning princess, and find true love too?

Find out as the Clayton Youth Theater presents Hairspray on July 27-28 and Aug. 2-4 at 7:30 p.m., at The Clayton Center, located at 111 E. Second St. in Clayton.

Saturday: Miracle 2012

Local artists The Josh Pepper Band, Erin Nenni, When Forever Comes and Scott Barton join the family and friends of 13-year-old cancer patient Evan Coleman for a one-night-only benefit concert.

Miracle 2012 will also feature the works of local artists and a silent auction, in an evening of life and laughter offering support to Evan in his battle with melanoma.

The event will be held this Saturday, July 28 at 6 p.m., at the Garner Performing Arts Center, located at 742 W. Garner Road; doors open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at miracle2012.webs.com.

Win a prize

Benefacting, a new nonprofit working to boost community involvement and support for Triangle-based based charities, will give away two Nook Color e-readers to those who participate in a “Benefaction” between now and Aug. 31.

Benefacting.org works like Craigslist, connecting individuals offering services with those in need of those services, provided in exchange for a donation to a local charity.

Those participating through Aug. 31 will be automatically entered into a drawing for a Nook Color. For more information, visit www.Benefacting.org.

Ladies who lunch

The annual Women of Western Wake Luncheon, presented by Cary Magazine, celebrates the area’s most influential women and honors their achievements.

This year’s luncheon is set for Friday, Oct. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at The Umstead Hotel & Spa in Cary. The luncheon includes a 30-minute networking session, lunch prepared by The Umstead’s head chef, and a panel discussion with the 2012 honorees, emceed by ABC 11’s Angela Hampton.

The 2012 Women of Western Wake will be unveiled in the September/October issue of Cary Magazine.
