You’re bound to remember her as the lovable Shirley Feeney of TV’s Happy Days spinoff Laverne & Shirley. What could throw off your recollections is the nun’s habit she’ll be wearing.
Cindy Williams leads the cast as Mother Superior in Nunset Boulevard: The Nunsense Hollywood Bowl Show, the first show in The Clayton Center’s 2012-13 Palladian Series, set for tonight at 8 p.m.
As Mother Superior, Williams leads the Little Sisters of Hoboken on a Hollywood adventure. They’ve been invited to sing at the Hollywood Bowl, but when they arrive in Tinseltown, it turns out they are really booked into the Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama, a bowling alley with a cabaret lounge.
Things are looking gloomy until the Sisters hear that a big-time producer is auditioning people for a new movie musical about the life of Dolores Hart, the famous movie star who became a nun. Their spirits soar, and so does the hilarity.
Joining Williams in this critically acclaimed musical comedy are members of the original New York cast.
The original Nunsense, by Dan Goggin, premiered in New York City in 1985 and won four Outer Critics’ Circle Awards, including Best Off-Broadway Musical, and went on to become one of the top two longest-running musicals in Off Broadway history, second only to The Fantasticks.
