Come celebrate the completion of the Academy Street renovation project and the opening of Cary’s newest crown jewel – the Downtown Park – on June 24 with live music, food trucks, and fun for the whole family. The free festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. along South Academy Street from Chatham Street to Dry Avenue, with a special dedication ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in Downtown Park. The event will end with a light show at the fountain at dusk, which is expected to be about 8:30 p.m.

Designated as a signature street by the Town, South Academy Street’s revitalization was critical to the successful redevelopment of downtown Cary. The project created a visually enhanced section of the South Academy Street and Dry Avenue in the area between Chatham Street and Walnut Street with enhanced pedestrian spaces, upgraded sidewalks, unique streetscape elements, landscaping, public art and utilities. Downtown Park, 319 S. Academy St., is a true urban park that offers a destination in for all ages. Citizens can enjoy public art, play games, congregate on benches and chairs, watch the water fountain’s lighted show, and enjoy entertainment on the performance plaza.
