Cary’s Literary Tea

The Town of Cary will bring together four African American authors to discuss their works and experiences at its “Women Writers and Literary Freedom: African American Literary Tea,” on April 2. Held from 2-4 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, attendees will hear selections from each of the writers’ latest works; light refreshments and tea will be served. Tickets are $10 per person.
Speakers include:
- Poet and author Scherrie Strayhorn from Cove City, NC. When she is not busy writing, she works as a case manager for N.C. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
- Poet, photographer, recording artist and motivational speaker Yolanda Barnes. Known by her stage name Yogii, she is working on a CD recording titled “Spit Fire.”
- Chyna (Clevette Roberts’ pseudonym). Born in Kinston, NC, she published Still Standing in 2015 and hosts the poetry radio show, “The Lyrical Cypher Radio Show,” which airs on Blog Talk Radio.
- Sarah Gordon Weathersby, who after the death of her first husband, found her long-lost daughter and writes about that experience in Motherless Child–Stories from a Life. Her latest book is Adventures in BlackFace and Other Shorts.
