Debut event brings together runners and their furry friends to support organization that provides autism service dogs.
Cary, NC – American Asset Corporation, the master developer behind Cary’s Alston Town Center shopping center, will host the Alston 5K-9 on Saturday, May 19th, 2018 at 8AM at Alston Town Center, 5000 NC-55, Cary, NC 27519.
This debut event encourages runners to bring along their leashed dogs. Proceeds will benefit Ry-Con Service Dogs, a nonprofit organization based in Raleigh, NC that specializes in training dogs for children and adults with neurological disorders, such as autism and PTSD.
“Our service dogs act as constant companions to help improve social interactions and relationships, expand verbal and nonverbal communication, teach life skills, enhance safety, gain independence, improve sleep habits and elicit an overall calming effect adding to a better quality of life,” said Ry-Con president and head trainer Mark Mathis. “We’re excited to show people how we combine our love of dogs with our dedication for improving the lives of people with neurological based needs through the Alston 5K-9.”
Registration is $25 through April 1st, $30 through May 17th, and $35 through May 19th. No charge for dogs participating with their owners who have paid the registration fee. Runners are encouraged to register early and name their dog in their registration in order to receive a commemorative finisher’s dog tag medal.
American Asset Corporation and Alston Town Center encourage participants to bring only well-behaved dogs to the event to view or run with their owner and all dogs at the event must be on a leash. The race village will feature dog treats, dog warmups, and finishers will be recognized together with their dogs.
“We’re excited to bring the Triangle its first dog-themed race in the Alston 5K-9, and we couldn’t be happier to support a great organization like Ry-Con Service Dogs in the process,” said Erin Becker, marketing director of American Asset Corporation and Alston Town Center. “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone out with their furry friends for a great cause.”
