Wedding Stories: Byrne — Diggs

By Contributor to Cary Magazine

Living in Seattle, some may find it hard to believe that two people can find happiness in such a dreary city. However, Jonathan Diggs and Karen Byrne found love at a sopping wet golf course in 2007.

The two worked together for more than a year before realizing the mutual attraction. A short three months later they journeyed across the country to North Carolina where half of Jon’s family grew up and Karen’s family now lives. It was no surprise that the engagement didn’t come much later in a candle-lit room with Jon on one knee.

As planning was underway, first came the decision of where the wedding was going to be. After countless visits to churches, chapels, country clubs and numerous hotels, there was only one place that stood out. The two chose the Umstead Hotel not only for its modern elegance and sophistication but also for the ease that the coordinators made the planning process.

In an evening ceremony on May 9, 2009, the bride was escorted down the aisle to the romantic melodies of harpist Laura Byrne in the background. Keeping to true Washington fashion, Jon and Karen finished their “I dos” with just minutes to spare before the rain came.

As family and friends poured into the crystal-draped ballroom, so began the enchanting evening and their life together. The couple would like to extend special thanks to Heather Swanner Photography, Watered Garden Florist, Pastor Kris Weiss and DJ Randy Pulley.
