Starlight Concert Series

Jun 23, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Serving up a diverse menu of musical stylings, Cary’s Starlight Concert Series returns for its 19th season at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center Garden, 119 Ambassador Loop. This free, four-part, lively concert series offers citizens a wide range of musical styles from local and regional artists, including two newcomers, and the garden setting is a perfect spot for all ages to enjoy music in a unique venue that invites everyone to explore a different side of downtown Cary. All concerts begin at 7 p.m.

Opening this year’s Starlight Concert Series is Polka Night with the Polka Plus Band. On June 2, pick your partner and join the fun in celebrating the 22nd annual Yankovic Day with a concert designed to bring polka fans together to listen to the music of the late Frankie Yankovic, “America’s Polka King.” It is in the spirit of keeping his music alive for both young and old that the band performs each year.

Frozen desserts will be available from Del’s Frozen Lemonade on June 2 and July 14, and Kona Ice on June 23 and Aug. 4.

Concerts include:

  • Celebration of Bluegrass, June 23
The Piedmont Council of Traditional Music (PineCone) presents an evening of traditional bluegrass music. At 6 p.m., come early to hear the students of our Bluegrass Camp show off their skills. Stay to hear Zoe & Cloyd out of Asheville, as they perform Appalachian, old time, and bluegrass in their Starlight debut.
  • Greg Gelb & The Second Line Stompers, July 14
Another Starlight newcomer, The Second Line Stompers are a traditional jazz ensemble out of Raleigh featuring “the busiest jazz musician in North Carolina,” Gregg Gelb on clarinet and tenor sax. Gelb is joined by trombone, bass, tuba, drums, cornet, and keyboard; as well as special guest vocalist Kathy Gelb.
  • Jamrock, Aug. 14
Jamrock will fill the air with authentic reggae rhythms. Rock out to “Yard Style” reggae, including lovers rock, oldies, dancehall, and roots music. Celebrate the Raleigh-based band’s Jamaican influence and origins at the final Starlight Concert of the season.

Free public parking is available adjacent to Page-Walker on Town Hall campus, as well as at the Town Hall parking deck on Wilkinson Avenue. Accessible entrance to garden is on the north end via a ramp. Picnics and lawn chairs are permitted; however, pets and alcohol are prohibited. In the event of inclement weather, concert goers can visit www.townofcary.org/rainouts for updated information.
