Technology Spring Clean 2010

Free event offers recycling for unwanted computers and more

It’s spring cleaning time, the time to put everything in its place. And thanks to one Garner company, that even includes outdated or unused computer technology!

WingSwept, an information technology firm located in Garner, will host the second annual Technology Spring Clean Event on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 951 Heather Park Drive in Garner, at the corner of Aversboro Road.

Rain date is Saturday, April 24.

“While many people do spring cleaning around this time of year, most don’t know what to do with old computer technology equipment that builds up over the years in people’s home and offices,” said Jay Strickland, WingSwept president and founder, and originator of the recycling event.

“WingSwept started this earth-friendly community service event as an easy and free way to recycle the unwanted equipment rather than improperly disposing of it.”

This Earth Day-inspired project allows both businesses and individuals to drop off unwanted technology items for recycling, diverting them from landfills. Computers and CPUs, printers, monitors, copiers and scanners, keyboards, mice, circuit boards, hard drives and phone systems will all be accepted.
And for added peace of mind, WingSwept and partner Triangle Recycling will securely shred all hard drives in machines that are dropped off, prior to recycling.

At last year’s event, more than 5,000 pounds of technology equipment was dropped off by the community to be recycled. The event is seeing even more support this year, with nine community organizations serving as sponsors, up from two in 2009.

WingSwept plans to continue Technology Spring Clean as an annual event. For more information, visit www.wingswept.com/recycle or call (919) 779-0954.

Go green with your spring cleaning this year — recycle!
