Pooch Playtime at Bond Park

By

Your dog sits and stays on command, so surely it will play on command too. Come spend the day playing with your furry, four-legged best friend at Cary’s Third Annual Dog Days of June on June 5.

From 9 a.m.–2 p.m. dogs and their owners are invited to Field No. 4 at Fred Bond Metro Park in Cary for a day of play and pampering. “The goal is to provide a family fun event focused on our dogs,” said Tracey Filomena, recreation program specialist with the Town of Cary.

Proud parents can show off their dog’s talent in two different competitions. The Skyhoundz Canine Flying Disc Competition will take place at 10 a.m. The top three performers will receive prizes and qualify for the regional disc competition. Registration is free and begins at 9 a.m. The Greyhound Racing Competition at noon will crown the fastest canine of the bunch.

For those looking to correct bad behavior, the American Kennel Club will put on a demonstration about obedience from noon–2 p.m.

Keeping your pet healthy is another focus of this event. Dr. Jodi Reed, a veterinarian from Harmony Animal Hospital, will be on hand to answer any dog health questions. Cary Animal Control will also be available to administer rabies vaccinations and implant microchips. Vaccinations are $5 each, and microchips are $10 each.

After the long day of fun, let the members of the Cary Teen Council pamper your pup with a bath. Small dogs (up to 15 pounds) will cost $5, medium dogs (16–35 pounds) will cost $7 and large dogs (36-plus) will cost $10.

Don’t own a dog? That’s OK, too. Local animal shelters will have adoptable dogs at the park throughout the day. Attendees will also have opportunities to give back to the animal community. Johnson Subaru will host a pet food drive for local shelters. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available, and all proceeds will benefit Sound Pet Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation.

The event is free and will be held rain or shine. Dogs must be leashed, and owners are responsible for picking up after their dogs. Water will be provided. For a full list of participating shelters and the day’s events, visit www.carydogdays.com.
