NC Symphony Presents Fiesta Latina Tour

By Cary Magazine

Mariachi Cobre joins forces with the North Carolina Symphony and guest artist Anne Harley for Fiesta Latina, a whirlwind musical tour of Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Peru, at Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh’s Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, on Jan. 15 and 16.

Both concerts begin at 8 p.m.

Hear the vibrant sounds and pulsing rhythms of sones, huapangos, boleros and more! Mariachi Cobre is a traditional Mexican mariachi band best known for frequent performances at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center.

“There’s no such thing as popular music. There’s just great music,” says North Carolina Symphony General Manager Scott Freck. “There is a lot of fantastic music, particularly from Mexico, that audiences are unlikely to know. It deserves to be heard.”

The Symphony completes the journey with Latin-inspired music by American favorites Leroy Anderson and Morton Gould, alongside celebrated selections by Manuel de Falla, Armando Guevara Ochoa and Heitor Villa-Lobos, featuring Canadian soprano Anne Harley. Harley has appeared with opera companies across North America and Europe, including Opera Boston, Opera Unlimited, The American Repertory Theatre, and at the Tanglewood Festival.

Marbles Kids Museum will present a special children’s concert before the concert from 10–11 a.m. on Jan. 16. Kids can enjoy the Marbles Learn Your Notes and Be the Conductor activities right in Meymandi Concert Hall as well as an Instrument Zoo.
