Good Times, Good Causes

By Cary Magazine

Western Wake is full of events that combine fun and fundraising this fall. Here's a selection of what's going on this week.

Sept. 22: Battle of the Bands

Bach and Roll! In a surprising change of pace, this battle of the bands is a showdown of classical proportions. Benefitting KidZNotes, a Durham-based nonprofit that seeks to encourage positive decision-making by providing kids with free instruments and lessons, the battle kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the American Tobacco Campus.

Individual tickets are $25, or $10 for students with ID, available online.

Sept. 22: Front Porch Fundraiser

Three bands, a food truck and a worthy cause — the Front Porch Fundraiser will bring them all to Raleigh’s Historic Oak View County Park from 4 to 7 p.m. The evening benefits the Tenant House Restoration Project, which aims to restore a Civil War-era tenant farm house that has been moved to the park.

The Iron Mountain Messengers, Kudzu Ramblers and The Happy Valley Pals will bring old-time Southern music for an evening of fun. The event is free to the public, and donations are encouraged. The Chick-N-Que food truck will have food for sale.

Sept. 26-30: Cary Plaza Carnival

Dorcas Ministries presents an event full of family fun, including rides, games, food and entertainment.

The festivities will be held adjacent to the Dorcas thrift shop at 187 High House Road in Cary. Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m.; Friday from 5 to 11 p.m.; Saturday from 2 to 11 p.m.; and Sunday from 2 p.m. to closing. Admission is $2 per person 5 and older.

Ride tickets are available now in the Dorcas store for $1 each (rides require multiple tickets). Discounted volume packs are available. An unlimited ride special on Wednesday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. will offer an unlimited ride wrist band for $18. All festival proceeds benefit Dorcas.
