On April 17, more than 3,000 runners, volunteers and supporters are expected to attend the Eighth Annual New Balance Girls on the Run 5K & Fun Run. The event is presented by Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center and held at the American Tobacco Campus/Diamond View Park from 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

The race is open to male and female participants of all ages. Post-race celebration will continue with a festival for all ages with a Kids Zone, interactive playgrounds, food, music, entertainment/performances and many more fun and exciting activities for families.

Girls on the Run of the Triangle is a chapter of Girls on the Run International established in 1996 by Molly Barker, a marathon runner and Ironman triathlete. The GOTR-Triangle chapter was founded in 2000 by Mandy Beard, a Durham native, and has grown from serving 20 girls in 2001 to more than 500 girls in 2008.

GOTR uses the power of running and being active to change girls’ self image and their futures. Through a combination ofrunning, lessons and a community service project, girls are taught values that lead to a confident sense of self. The 12-week program culminates with the girls’ participation in a non-competitive 1 or 3.1 mile walk/run event.

Sign up today to help GOTR participants cross the finish line and celebrate their accomplishment.
