Event Description:
Pianist Yuja Wang joins the North Carolina Symphony and Resident Conductor William Henry Curry for “Fire and Ice,” at Memorial Hall on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus on Feb. 4, and at Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh’s Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 5 and 6. All three performances begin at 8 p.m. Yuja Wang, named “the most important new pianist to appear in recent years” by The Detroit News, will ignite the stage with her performance of Rachmaninoff’s fiery Piano Concerto No. 3. Ms. Wang, although only 22, already exhibits both a mastery of complex technique and a unique, intoxicating eloquence. She received formal training in her native China, as well as Canada and the U.S. Since her professional debut in 2005, the young pianist has traveled around the world and played with numerous prestigious orchestras in the United States. Regular tickets to these Classical Series performances in Raleigh and Chapel Hill range from $30 to $45.
