Discover Solar Power

By Contributor to Cary Magazine

Solar power is in the spotlight as an alternative energy that’s clean, renewable and sustainable. In addition to its environmental benefits, there are investment paybacks thanks to tax incentives for families that utilize solar energy.

The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association is hosting the Wake County Green Building and Solar Tour on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m-4 p.m. to educate consumers about their options in harnessing solar energy’s power.

The Wake County self-guided tour begins with a “Solar 101” presentation at Yes! Solar Solutions of the Triangle at 410 Ledgestone Way in Stone Creek Village in Cary, at the corner of High House Road and Davis Drive.

McDonald’s will provide breakfast, and 102.9 KISS-FM will host a live radio remote broadcast from the Yes! parking lot.

From there, the tour features a wide range of green building applications, from passive, thermal and photovoltaic solar installations, to LEED-certified college campuses, churches and fast food restaurants, to green renovated cottages and warehouses.

All tour stops are in Cary and Raleigh, and maps, tour books and tickets are all available at the door for $10. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the NCSEA.

For more information, visit www.wakegreensolartour.com, www.ncsustainableenergy.org or call Yes! Solar Solutions at (919) 459-4155.

This is the future of energy and those who take the plunge are the pioneers who will benefit for the next decades, as will the rest of the earth.
