Custom Guitars, Art and More at Lazy Daze

By

One man’s junk can be another man’s treasure, especially in the hands of Cary artist Pete Geiger. His crafty guitar sculptures give new life to old license plates. He is one of the 350 crafters who will participate in the 34th Annual Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival this Saturday from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. in downtown Cary.

Geiger blends woodworking and metalworking to create actual sized artistic guitars with rock ’n’ roll flair. Some are old and rusty while others are painted and polished. Each is unique, and fans of his work choose the style that suits them.

“People often say, ‘I live in Texas and I’m moving to Louisiana. Can you make a guitar with these?’” he explained. In those cases, clients hand over old plates that once collected dust in their garage. He transforms them into a meaningful piece of art that take a place of honor in their home.

Folk Art is one of 17 different categories of art at the festival. For the past 33 years, the Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival has become one of the South’s premier festivals, drawing more than 50,000 people for the best in arts and crafts, food and entertainment.

There will be two stages of entertainment as well as a children’s entertainment stage in the Kid’s World Area. The best of regional talent, entertainers ranging from local dance groups to beach bands, bluegrass, classic rock and more will perform throughout the day.

Kid’s World will also offer plenty of activities for the little ones, including a create-your-own bicycle name plate, hats, bracelets and necklaces. Cool off in the misting tent and enjoy yummy food and entertainment!
