2009 JUPITER BALL

By Cary Magazine

The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will host its annual black-tie benefit gala the Jupiter Ball on Nov. 20 from 7 p.m.–midnight.

Business, education and community leaders from across the state will enjoy an exclusive night of elegance and fun to help fulfill Morehead’s vision of expanding science education throughout North Carolina.

The evening begins with champagne and cocktails, followed by music “under the stars” with the University of North Carolina Chamber Singers. Guests will enjoy a gourmet dinner, dance to The Headliners and enjoy private sky watching in the Morehead Observatory.

All proceeds from The Jupiter Ball will support installation of state-of-the-art planetarium technology and fellowships for UNC undergraduate interns. These efforts help continue the legacy that began in 1949 when John Motley Morehead III gave his alma mater a most unusual gift: the first planetarium on a U.S. college campus.

Each year, more than 175,000 visitors experience the wonder of science at Morehead. In addition, Morehead’s DESTINY Traveling Science Learning Program reaches more than 6,200 students and 100 teachers throughout North Carolina annually.
