Weight loss motivation is hard to come by.
It’s a little easier when you add the potential to win money and prizes, and a support system of like-minded people.
That’s why Cary Magazine is hosting the 2013 Summer Slimdown beginning May 15. The challenge is open to any readers who would like to lose a bit of weight before the heat of summer.
It works like this:
Participants put in $10 to the Cary Magazine Summer Slimdown challenge, hosted by DietBet. On weigh-in day, everyone verifies their weight by submitting a photo visible only to DietBet staff members who screen for foul play. Then, each person has 28 days to lose 4 percent of his or her starting weight. The pot of money is split among everyone who achieves the 4-percent loss and verifies with another set of photos.
Sign up any time between now and May 15 to gear up for the challenge (or late entries are allowed for up to 14 days). Weigh-ins begin Monday, May 13. Once the challenge begins, post updates, ask for advice, share workout tips or whatever you like with other participants on the DietBet page.
Besides the motivation, friendly competition and the potential for winning a bit of vacation spending money, we have some additional prizes to add!
All contest winners will receive a free one-day pass for climbing at Triangle Rock Club in Morrisville.
One randomly selected winner will receive a full month of unlimited classesfrom studioVIBE. All winners will receive a free class, from their selection of pilates, yoga, Xtend Barre or TRX. Certified, educated teachers aim to help you live a fulfilling and healthy life that is balanced in every way.
One winner will recieve a one-month silver membership at Excel Body Fitness. All participants (not just winners!) recieve three FREE trial classes at Excel Body Fitness to use during the Slimdown.

All winners will also receive a 20 percent off coupon from Apricot Lane, a chic women's boutique, in order to pick out a new outfit to celebrate success.
Throughout the challenge, we will share tips from Sheri Sampson, a personal trainer and fitness instructor at Rex Wellness Center of Cary. A little extra motivation can go a long way!
