PHOTO GALLERY: How Cool is This?

Usually you have to go to the circus to see people perform flying feats.

But last Friday in Cary, it was art that was flying, as Cary Visual Art launched its eighth annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition.

Ten sculptures by nationally recognized artists were carefully placed in Downtown Cary, using cranes, ladders, and good old fashioned manpower.

Cary Magazine chief photographer Jonathan Fredin was on hand to capture the installation work, which makes it possible for all of us to view the art along Academy Street, free, now through June 17, 2016.

The 2015 exhibiting artists are Jonathan Bowling; Robert Coon; Phil Hathcock; Hanna Jubran; Ray Katz; Jeff Kiefer; Gary Mitchell; Shawn Morin; Ken Thompson; and Nathan Willson.

“Public art is magical in that anyone can become inspired at any given moment; no tickets, no admission, just a moment to consider the piece that’s before you,” said Mary Davis Wallace, executive director of Cary Visual Art.

“The Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition … offers a diverse and approachable collection of public art — sculpture meant to delight, incite discussion and create an element of discovery.”
