Always Remember

We can’t change the events of 9/11, but we can join together in remembrance and in service to our community.

In Cary, volunteers will gather on Sept. 11 and 12 to build raised vegetable gardens at Fire Station 5 on High House Road and Fire Station 4 on Old Apex Road, to benefit local firefighters.

In Garner, a 9/11 commemoration will be held on Friday, at First Baptist Church, featuring a free breakfast at 7 a.m., keynote speaker Bill Hart, and emcee Rachel Chavez, the 2015 Miss Garner.

Looking for a project to join?

From sprucing up Thrift 2 Gift in Apex to mulching the trail at Hemlock Bluffs, Triangle group Activate Good offers a long list of Day of Service opportunities on its website, at activategood.org/911dayofservice2015.

Volunteers are also needed for the 9/11 Day of Service Evening Commemoration at Red Hat Amphitheater in downtown Raleigh.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Sept. 11, you’ll hear local leaders speak, live music play, and participate in service projects at stations throughout the amphitheater.

Bring a nonperishable food item if you’re coming, to donate to “fill-the-truck” for the Urban Ministries of Wake County food pantry. RSVP for this free event at activategood.org.
